Writing Quote

I love this quote from C.S. Lewis:

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.

My take: if you make your writing personal and bleed on the page, it will always be original- because you are a unique person who views life and experiences in a unique way.  Love this!

Fabulous quote - and heartening to those of us out there, panicking every time we hear about something that sounds like what we're working on!

Gilly, it's such an awful feeling to read about books that sound like yours. I have a knack for writing about a subject that 100 people have already written and submitted and sold without my ever knowing, so I understand completely. All I can do is tell my story my way and hope that it is enough.

It is encouraging, yes! I'll have to remember it when my paranoia kicks in (which is always, but especially when I'm finishing a draft).

That's a good one, Talia. However, today I am more in the mood of one from Oscar Wilde: "I sometimes think that God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability."
Have a great New Year!!!

so true, and i try to follow that. check it out

Very, very true. After years and years of writing, when I finally started to truly put my heart and soul into a story - that's when I also started to get published.

But it takes time and practice, too. Lots of practice to get it right on the page. ;-)
