Book Blog: WE WERE LIARS by E. Lockhart

I could barely stop to take a breath while reading E. Lockhart's new book, We Were Liars. Do you ever pick up a new book, just to read the first couple of pages and get a sense of the style--but you don't plan on reading more? This one sucked me in before I even realized it. I read it the same day it arrived in the mail--while I was (lightly) supervising my kids. Seriously unputdownable.

Cady and the rest of the "Liars"--two of her cousins and their friend--spend every summer on her family's private island. At the beginning of the book, Cady, the main character, is a seventeen-year-old girl who suffers migraines, and she can't remember a traumatic event from two summers ago. She begins piecing things together from conversations with the Liars when they're reunited on the island for summer 17.

Not only is the story moving, but the prose is gorgeous, and I adored Cady's rewritten fairytales sprinkled throughout, each illuminating different truths of the same story, each changing as Cady herself learns more about her family and summer 15.

Also--have Kleenex at the ready.

Loved this book, I had a hard time getting into it, but once I did I was hooked.

Another must read. My pile is tipping over. Also, I loved your tweet. It belongs in a book.

Ha – your tweet! I hear you, I hear you.... And I need to read this book!
