Book Blog: The YA I'm Dying to Read...

You guys. EVERYONE I know is talking about a debut YA that's not even out yet. A few ARCs have been circling around town, and it seems like one of my writerly-book blogging friends references its brilliance every week! Have you heard of POINTE by Brandy Colbert yet? Here's the dish on one of my most anticipated reads of 2014....

POINTE's description, via Goodreads

She's eating again, dating guys who are almost appropriate, and well on her way to becoming an elite ballet dancer. But when her oldest friend, Donovan, returns home after spending four long years with his kidnapper, Theo starts reliving memories about his abduction—and his abductor.

Donovan isn't talking about what happened, and even though Theo knows she didn't do anything wrong, telling the truth would put everything she's been living for at risk. But keeping quiet might be worse.

POINTE (Putnam/Penguin) promises not to be just another ballerina tale. It dances – pardon the pun – into deeply serious subject matter, such eating disorders and childhood abduction. On the YA Highway blog, POINTE was summarized as "A ballet prodigy's life begins to unravel when she is forced to admit to the role she played in her childhood friend's abduction." Talk about a captivating log line!

I'm literally counting down the days until April 10th to devour this highly-anticipated book by a debut author. From what I'm hearing in my circles, POINTE powerfully delivers on its premise. (Interesting fun fact: this book was originally titled A POINT SO DELICATE.)

A brave and resonant debut that is as captivating as it is heartbreaking. Brandy Colbert has given us a portrait of life after trauma that is skillfully rendered, raw, and unflinching. This novel haunts me.” —Nina LaCour, author of Hold Still
“POINTE is an impressively written and affecting portrait of loss and self-forgiveness. Brandy Colbert’s debut is beautiful, sharp and memorable.”—Courtney Summers, author of Cracked Up to Be
Add POINTE to your Goodreads here. Or you can just listen for my excited squeals on release day, and you'll get the clue that it's out on shelves.  :)
