Fandom: For the Debuts

I have a special place in my heart for debut novels. There's this whole other promotion-sharing-posting-happy-squee! side of me that comes out when a writerly friend gets their first book signed/sold/published (like this one and this one), or when an unknown author (to me) hits the scene with a dazzling debut sending the industry a-buzz (such as soon-to-be-released POINTE by Brandy Colbert, and a few years back, the award-winning YA SKINNY by Donna Cooner, who of course I have the pleasure of knowing now!). These are often the books I blog about on my own website, share up a storm on Twitter and Facebook, save the Publisher's Marketplace deal announcements, tell all my friends/family/whoever will listen, buy multiple copies, read over and over, gift to friends, and display in my apartment. A debut novel is a very special thing.

And how cool is it when a debut author's book becomes an awesome success story too, loved by readers around the world, igniting true fandom? Some recent titles that come to mind are DIVERGENT, ELEANOR & PARK, ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, etc (I could obviously go on & on here...)

So here's to the debut authors out there! Wishing you stellar book sales, inspiration for the next project, growth during the publishing process, great working relationships, a clear-head despite all the crazy, a proud pat on the back from mom & dad, and total reader fandom! I'm rooting for you (and your book)!

P.S. Special shout-out to MG debut author Rebecca Behrens, as we attended her WHEN AUDREY MET ALICE launch party last night at Books of Wonder in New York City. Check out her book, friends!

Yay debuts! I'm glad you highlighted them, Jodi, because this is such an exhilarating part of the journey.

Debuts are so exciting for the reader and the writer! You get to know this entirely new writer and their style and wow I think I have a slight crush on debuts omg. <3
