Five Books I'm Reading Now...

I'm going through a stage of reading where it's less "past time pleasure" and more "craft + content study." You see, I've wrapped up working on my YA thriller (for now at least)... It's got some dark, heavy parts, and since it's been my main creative writing focus for over three years, I need to shift gears and lighten my heart a little. Execute something new, and totally different, and maybe see if I've gotten better at this whole writing thing.

I'm attempting to lay out the foundation for a new book – a historical middle grade, which I've never attempted before  – and I have no idea how to do it. I've solidified the basic plot points, and I know the historical timing and backdrop to the narrative, but the rest.... Still figuring out. I want to take my time with this story. Develop my craft. Spend the summer just attempting different ways of telling it, playing around with the voice, and then seeing what sticks on the page. So, that being said, I'm an omnivore of literature right now, devouring up all sorts of randomness... And it's been freeing & fun.
